GoalsJaSPCAN works upon prevention and treatment of child abuse and neglect by developing both basic and practical research, promoting collaboration with public and private agencies, and raising public awareness.
ProgramsFounded in 1996, JaSPCAN has been holding its annual conference to promote basic, practical and systematic research collaborating with public and private agencies, and also publishing semi-annual newsletters to communicate with professionals or individuals working against child abuse and neglect. The Society also launched its own journal “Japanese Journal of Child Abuse and Neglect” in November 1999. Membership is open to all professionals concerning with child abuse and neglect. The sum of the current membership is 1,409 by April 2002. Annual Conferences were held in Tokyo (1994), Osaka (96), Yokohama (97), Wakayama (98), Tochigi (2000), Kobe (01), Tokyo (02), Kyoto (03), Fukuoka (04), Sapporo (05), Miyagi (06), and Mie (07). The number of participants in recent conference was counted as around 2,000.
